Corporate Away Day Ideas That Your Whole Team Will Enjoy

Matt Crisp May 6, 2025

Corporate away days can be fantastic opportunities for your team to strengthen relationships and boost morale. However, finding an activity that everyone genuinely enjoys rather than merely endures can be a challenge. Here are some ideas for team building activities that are fun and engaging, and ideal for groups of any size.

To ensure that everyone arrives at the same place and at the same time, consider coach hire. This will not only be convenient and cost-effective, but also allow everyone to chat, relax and socialise before the main activity, strengthening team-building even further. It can deepen existing relationships or allow team members to get to know each other better.

Here are some suggestions for team building corporate away days, whether you are looking for strategic challenges, outdoor activities, or simply want to treat your team to a day away from the office.

Outdoor adventures

National Park orienteering days

Orienteering— using maps and compasses to navigate a course— are ideal for encouraging teamwork, leadership, and problem solving. There are many companies that run orienteering team events in beautiful National Parks such as the Peak District or the New Forest. It’s also an excellent way to learn about the wildlife and geography of the area.

Navigating around a course can be run as a competition for small groups, or simply be enjoyed as an opportunity to be outdoors and active in the fresh air. Either way, your team will be naturally building their communication and listening skills, assessing risk, thinking analytically and developing skills that are transferable to a rewarding personal hobby.

Survival skills workshops

Bushcraft survival skills will hopefully not be part of your team’s everyday life, but a survival away day will be a step out of their comfort zone and also be lots of good fun!

The away day teaches bushcraft skills such as firelighting, raft building, bridge building, finding clean water sources and shelter building, and is set in beautiful countryside or woodland areas.

It can shake up the usual team dynamics and build a new sense of trust and camaraderie. The team can even build an overnight survival shelter and cook foraged food on a campfire if you want to make a longer event of it. They will return to the office with a refreshed perspective and renewed motivation for their jobs.

Creative and collaborative projects

Film-making challenge

To inspire creativity and get everyone involved in working together towards a common goal, try a film making challenge. The team will need to respond to a brief such as making a short advert or other short video production. This allows different strengths to shine, such as storyboarding, technical skills and blue sky thinking.

From the ‘big ideas’ person to the ‘attention to detail’ person, everyone will have something to offer, and there’s the chance to learn something new along the way. It’s also fun and rewarding to see what each team comes up with at the end of day.

Chilled and sociable activities

If you’ve already got a hard working team who have good working relationships, then you might simply want to treat them to an enjoyable and relaxing day out away from the everyday routine of office life. This will strengthen bonds and help them to enjoy their jobs even more.

There are lots of options, especially at this time of year when outdoor activities are most enjoyable. For a fun and easy going day, plan a trip to a seaside resort or lake with recreational facilities. If your team enjoys a bit of friendly competition, try miniature golf or book a country house retreat for a picnic and lawn games.

For something a little different, book a vineyard tour complete with food and wine tasting sessions, or a brewery tour to learn about craft beer production if that’s more their scene. Round it all off nicely with a pint or two in the pub afterwards.
